With COVID-19 affecting millions of people around the globe, quarantine of international arrivals is a critical public health measure to prevent further disease transmission in local populations. This measure has also been applied in the repatriation of citizens, undertaken by several countries as an ethical obligation and legal responsibility. This article describes the process of planning and preparing for the repatriation operation in South Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interagency collaboration, development of a COVID-19 testing and quarantining protocol, implementing infection prevention and control, and building a specialised health care delivery model were essential aspects of the repatriation operational planning, with a focus on maintaining dignity and wellbeing of the passengers as well as on effective prevention of COVID-19 transmission. From April 2020 to mid-February 2021, more than 14,000 international arrivals travellers have been repatriated under the South Australian repatriation operations. This paper has implications to inform ongoing repatriation efforts in Australia and overseas in a pandemic situation.

Introduction: 2019-nCoV as the term for the new coronavirus that causes outbreaks of pneumonia in Wuhan City, central China by the World Health Organization (WHO), on June 28, 2020, to confirm as many as 9,843,073 cases globally, Therefore, efforts to be made to prevent the spread of this virus must be done immediately and very urgently. The purpose of literature is to discuss the global response to Covid19 and find prevention strategies in the form of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) or non-pharmaceutical interventions. Discussion: This literature review using PICO and PRISMA techniques in extracting the research data based on inclusion and exclusion criteria of several articles on the Database PubMed, Science Direct, and Wiley Online. The readiness of the Government, both in conducting initial screening (Rapid test), readiness of referral hospitals, limiting areas and activities as well as awareness of citizens in implementing new habit adaptations, namely wearing masks, maintaining distance and washing hands regularly are the keys to preventing the spread of the Covid19 virus. Conclusion: articles search from multiple databases, with filtering 2015-2020 study, found as many as 7 Full-text research articles, in the face of a pandemic, we need the readiness of the government, health and infrastructure support as well as coordination and cooperation among all parties.

BackgroundThe COVID‐19 pandemic necessitated the rapid development of quarantine sites, prompting the need for new staff models and scopes of practice. This project surveyed health and non‐health staff at a large outdoor quarantine facility in regional Australia to gather insights for future quarantine facility guidelines based on their experiences and perceptions.MethodsThis translational research project implemented a mixed‐methods approach to analyse staff perceptions of working at a quarantine facility to inform the development of a policy and practice guide. An anonymous online survey utilising purposive sampling was distributed to 410 multidisciplinary survey participants over an 8‐week period. Survey questions focussed on site processes, challenges and recommendations for future implementation of quarantine services. Qualitative data was thematically analysed with the aid of Leximancer, and a descriptive statistical method was used for quantitative data analysis.ResultsThere were 92 survey respondents from health and non‐health roles; of these, 85% indicated they would work at the quarantine facility again, and 90% agreed residents were well cared for. There was a lack of anxiety of acquiring COVID‐19, with 95% feeling safe from COVID‐19 transmission onsite. Challenges staff identified highlighted future investment areas, including leadership communication models, information technology (IT) management systems specific for quarantine services and site processes to better accommodate weather elements.ConclusionOverall, staff validated the primary health model of quarantine care with key challenges highlighting the importance of leadership and investment in communication and IT. The results were aligned with site functions and operations and will inform the development of a pandemic quarantine facility guide.
