For semi-log specifications the coefficient on distance ranges from À 0.0006 [22] to À 0.0004 [21] and for double-log specifications the coefficient on distance ranges from À 0.07 [29] to À 0.13 [33]. Averaging the relevant estimates from the literature, we fixed the coefficient on dist at À 0.0005 in the semi-log model and at À 0.1 in the doublelog model and estimated the remaining coefficients in each model.…”

“…Landry, Keeler, and Kriesel (2003) recognize potential bias in this approach given the dynamic nature of beaches and the possibility of periodic interventions due to beach replenishment operations; sales data should be matched with contemporaneous information on beach quality for accurate analysis. Pompe and Rinehart (1999) use time-series beach quality data to address this problem. They produce marginal value estimates for South Carolina coastline that are generally lower than their previous estimates, but since average beach quality is higher this discrepancy could be consistent with diminishing marginal value.…”
