Establishing the relevance of the Ubuntu philosophy in social work practice: Inspired by the Ubuntu World Social Work Day, 2021 celebrations and the IFSW and IASSW’s (2014) Global Definition of Social Work

Abstract: The philosophy of Ubuntu has gained momentum in the social work fraternity to the extent that the theme for the World Social Work Day, 2021 celebrations read, ‘Ubuntu: I am Because We are – Strengthening Social Solidarity and Global Connectedness’. “…The International Association of Social Work (IASSW) released a new global definition of social work in 2014, which states that social work is a practice-based profession and discipline that seeks to promote social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Chigangaidze Robert K et al argued that the concept of empowerment has been widely recognized in social work practice for a long time and has been central to the last few decades [9] .
