Establishment and Characterization of a Continuous Human Chondrosarcoma Cell Line, ch-2879: Comparative Histologic and Genetic Studies with Its Tumor of Origin

Abstract: SUMMARY:Chondrosarcomas are malignant cartilage-forming tumors that represent the second most common malignant solid tumor of bone. These biologically poorly understood neoplasms vary considerably in clinical presentation and biologic behavior. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are generally ineffective. Here we describe the establishment and characterization of a new human chondrosarcoma cell line named ch-2879, and we compare the cell line with its tumor of origin. The cell line was established from a recur… Show more

“…Human primary fibroblasts were isolated from non-fixed mastoplasty reduction specimens by mechanic and enzymatic digestion as previously described (Szuhai and Tanke, 2006). The human chondrosarcoma cell lines CH2879 (Gil-Benso et al, 2003) and OUMS27 (Kunisada et al, 1998) were generously provided by Professor A. Llombart-Bosch and Dr. M. Namba, respectively. The human chondrosarcoma cell line SW1353 (Ouyang, 1998), the human cervical carcinoma cell lines CaSki (Pattillo et al, 1977) and HeLa (Gey et al, 1952), the human colon adenocarcinoma cell line SW48 (Leibovitz et al, 1976), the human epidermoid lung carcinoma cell line Calu-1 (Perucho et al, 1981), and the human prostatic carcinoma cell line PC-3 (Kaighn et al, 1979) were obtained from the American Type Cell Culture (ATCC, Rockville, MD).…”
