Establishment of canine hematology reference intervals for theSysmexXT‐2000iV hematology analyzer using a blood donor database

Abstract: Canine RIs for the Sysmex hematology analyzer were established using an indirect sampling method with reference individuals selected from a large database of client-owned clinically healthy blood donor dogs. For specimens included in this study, time from collection to analysis was similar to what veterinary commercial laboratories experience.

“…8,[10][11][12][13][14] Recently, de novo hematology RIs were established for a general canine population in 2 studies on a large number of clinically healthy dogs. 15,16 Nevertheless, significant differences were apparent between these RIs and those obtained from a large cohort of Greyhounds and Lurchers. 8 Considering the phenotypic and genetic variability among canine breeds 17 , it appears reasonable to investigate whether general canine RIs are applicable to a brachycephalic mastiff like the DDB.…”

“…Specifically, RIs of HGB, HCT, MCV, MCHC, and MPV were significantly higher, and RIs of reticulocytes counts, PLT‐I, PLT‐O, and PCT were significantly lower than the RIs established under similar conditions for a general canine population (Table ) . Differences were more marked when the RIs specific for DDBs were compared with RIs published previously for other reference populations …”
