Esterification of Fatty Acids with Diazomethane on a Small Scale

Abstract: 9%; the probable error is 6%. Assuming that a monomolecular layer of methyl red is adsorbed, the area covered by a methyl red molecule is ca. 160 sq. A. This value is in reasonable agreement with the projected area (125 sq. A.) of the flat-lying molecule using Pauling's values (9) for the necessary covalent and van der Waals' radii. The above results constitute a calibration of the methyl red adsorption method. The accessible surface area of alumina-silica and silica gel can be determined with a probable error … Show more

“…58, 1976 ographed by TLC with water-saturated chloroform-acetic acid (98:2) and benzene-ethyl acetate-acetic acid (50:15:6) as developing solvents for the ABA and DPA extracts, respectively. The partially purified ABA and DPA were methylated (18) and further purified by TLC in hexane-ethyl acetate (1:1), and in 2-propanol-hexane (1:4) for ABA and DPA methyl esters, respectively. The ABA and DPA were quantified by gas chromatography as previously described (5).…”

“…The DPA was located by co-chromatography with authentic DPA and removed from the silica with acetone-water (9:1) in a Soxhlet extractor. The DPA was methylated with diazomethane (18) and chromatographed on 0.25-mm thick TLC plates of previous description, using hexane-2-propanol (80:20) as the developing solvent. The DPA methyl ester was located and eluted from the TLC plates as previously described.…”

“…In 1986, Salbut et al investigated pyromellitic acid production from coal in the two-stage process of oxidation and decarboxylation. Chemical ways of aromatic polycaraboxylic acids conversion to such valuable byproducts as phthalic, isophthalic or pyromellitic acids (PA) are presented [Salbust P D, 1986] [Schlenk H, 1960]. In 1994, Dalian university of technology explored different coal type's Efficiency of controlled coal oxidation in an alkaline medium for the aim of preparing PA.…”
