Esthetic Rehabilitation of Mutilated Anterior Teeth with Custom Cast Post and Core Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns

Abstract: An endodontically treated anterior tooth requires extracoronal restoration when the tooth structure is weakened or lost due to caries, endodontic treatment, placement of previous restorations and/or is discolored. The reduced tooth structure makes retention of extracoronal restoration difficult. The purpose of post is to provide retention for the core restoration, which replaces lost coronal structure. This article describes restoration of mutilated maxillary central incisors by using cast post and core, follo… Show more

“…Prefabricated metal post was used because of its ease of use and preservation of tooth structure. 10 On the other hand, prefabricated posts chiefly rely on cement for retention. Reduced core retention of the post and the probability of rotation are the major disadvantages of this type of post.…”

“…In cases where the remaining coronal tooth structure lacks adequate retention and resistance form for the restoration, it is often necessary to reconstruct teeth that have undergone endodontic treatment before proceeding with the final restoration. 1 Root canal-treated teeth are often challenging to restore due to fractures, dental cavities, and prior restorations and endodontic procedures.…”

“…When the remaining coronal tooth structure is insufficient to give retention and resistance form for the restoration, the reconstruction of teeth that have undergone endodontic treatment is frequently necessary before the final restoration can be completed [ 1 ]. Due to fractures, dental cavities and teeth that have already undergone restoration and endodontic procedures, the majority of root canal-treated teeth have been proved difficult to restore.…”
