Estimates of autumntime benthic secondary production in Laizhou Bay and adjacent Bohai Sea waters

Abstract: The whole metazoan community inhabiting Laizhou Bay and adjacent Bohai Sea waters were sampled in late autumn, 2006. Secondary production estimates for macrofauna and meiofauna were made separately. Total benthic secondary production was as high as 8.38 ± 4.08 g ash-free dry weight (AFDW) m -2 a -1 , which represented the autumn production level. In general, macrofaunal secondary production in Laizhou Bay was much lower than that in adjacent Bohai Sea areas. In contrast, meiofaunal secondary production in Laiz… Show more

“…Their estimated total production is in line with ranges for temperate coastal areas where similar assumptions have been made about meiofaunal biomass and P/B values [11], [47], [57], [69][74]. In this study, the proportion of total biomass or production made up of the fauna <1 mm increased exponentially with increasing percent sand.…”

“…The Shahejie Formation is further subdivided into Shahejie Member 1, Shahejie Member 2, Shahejie Member 3, and Shahejie Member 4. The oil bearing strata are mainly developed in the Shahejie Member 3 of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation, followed by the Minghuazhen Formation (Zhao et al, 2019;Zhu et al, 2018;Zhou & Sun, 2019). As the largest mid to deep oil field in the southern region of the Bohai Sea, efficient development of the oilfield is of great significance.…”
