Estimating foliar anthocyanin content of purple corn via hyperspectral model

Abstract: To date, the foliar anthocyanin content was either determined via the pH differential or HPLC methods, both of which are slow and destructive. Here, a hyperspectral model was established to estimate the foliar anthocyanin content of purple corn (Zea mays L. var. Jingzi No. 1). The reflectivity (P) of the foliar hyperspectral was inverted to 1/P, lg P, 1/lg P, P′, 1/P′, lgP′, and 1/lgP′. The correlation coefficient between these inversions and the foliar anthocyanin content was plotted against the hyperspectral… Show more

“…The supernatant was then removed, and the absorbance was read at 520 and 700 nm. The 5 g frozen strawberry samples were then combined with 20 ml buffer pH 4.5 (0.4 M sodium acetate buffer) and incubated and centrifuged similarly (Gu et al, 2018). The absorbance of the supernatant was measured at the same wavelengths.…”

“…There were various attempts to analyze anthocyanin accumulation non-destructively, such as the hyperspectral model (Gu et al, 2018 ), UV-Spec. (Gitelson et al, 2009 ), and the fluorimetric sensor (Tuccio et al, 2011 ).…”

“…Its content in a new dark red corn variety was evaluated using a quick, simple and conservative method, namely hyperspectral model, generally used for measuring moisture, nitrogen, and chlorophyll content. To overcome the weak relationship between the anthocyanin content and the hyperspectrum, a sensitive band (685 nm) was selected via multiple linear regression thus enhancing the accuracy and the stability of the model, also when the anthocyanin content was lower than 20 mg/g [ 59 ].…”
