Estimating New Product Success with the Use of Intelligent Systems

Abstract: The paper presents identifying success factors in new product development and selecting new product portfolio. The critical success factors are identified on the basis of an enterprise system, including the fields of project management, marketing and customer's comments concerning the previous products. The model of measuring the success of a product includes the indicators such as duration and cost of product development, and net profit from a product. “…More recently Relich and Bzdyra (2015) proposed a model of measuring the NPD project success that includes indicators such as duration, product development cost and net profit from a product. The proposed methodology is based on identification of the relationships between product success and project environment parameters with the use of artificial neural networks and fuzzy neural system that is compared with the results from linear model.…”

“…According to Clark and Fujimoto (1991); Lofsten, (2014) NPD is a source of competitive advantage for Volume 10; Issue: 7; July 2023 companies in the future. NPD produces new product portfolio innovations that play a role in creating growth (inorganic growth) of the company rather than just improving (organic growth) business performance (Relich and Bzdyra, 2014)…”

“…Speaking specifically about the new product portfolio / NPD, although business has the risk of uncertainty, requires high operational flexibility, complex and difficult to anticipate (Clark andFujimoto 1991, Slack et al 2007). The company's ability to generate new product portfolio innovations will increasingly play an important role in creating inorganic growth of the company rather than just improving/organic growth of business performance (Relich and Bzdyra, 2014) because currently the average industry has a shorter product life cycle (Cooper et al 1997b andCooper et al 1998).…”
