“…Many supershear ruptures were discovered by backprojecting seismic data recorded at dense stations. For the Madoi earthquake, modeling of the geodetic and teleseismic data gives a rupture speed of 2.6-2.8 km/s (K. Chen et al, 2022). This speed probably represents the average rupture speed for the entire process, and might overlook the variations of the speed over different segments.…”

“…At 02:04 a.m. on May 22, 2021 (local time, hereafter the same), an Mw 7.3 earthquake occurred in Madoi County (34.59°N, 98.34°E, depth 17 km, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center, CENC), Qinghai Province, China (hereafter referred to as “The Madoi Earthquake”), with the epicenter located in the Bayan Har block of the Tibetan Plateau (Figure 1). The seismic intensity map showed a northwest‐southeast (NW‐SE)‐oriented damage zone centered at the earthquake epicenter, with a maximum seismic intensity of X degree (Ministry of Emergency, China, http://www.mem.gov.cn/xw/yjglbgzdt/202105/t20210528_386251.shtml; W. Chen et al., 2022). Due to the low population and the residential reinforcement project prior to the earthquake, there were no casualties but 17 people were injured.…”

“…The peak ground acceleration (PGA) reflects the ground motion intensity, an essential driver of lateral spreadings during an earthquake [75]. The PGA exceeds 0.5 g in almost all the epicentral areas and even reaches values above 0.7 in S 1 [76], where the Yematan Highway bridge was severely damaged. Additionally, the intense seismic shaking can induce collapses and notable fractures along the steep banks of the Yellow River and lakes.…”

“…These calculations are known as attenuation relationships, and they express ground motion as a function of distance and magnitude, as well as other variables like faulting type [2]. In the past, such relationships have been developed for numerous locations of the world [3,4,[13][14][15][16][17][18][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Most of these studies use regression analysis.…”
