Estimation of crown diameter from the normal diameter (d1,3) in Casuarina equisetifolia Forst. plantations

Abstract

In this work a mathematical model is obtained from a sample of 301 Casuarina equisetifolia Forst trees, which permits the determination of the average diameter crown from the normal diameter (d 1. 30). The measurements of 215 trees were used to perform the regression analysis and to validate the selected equation the corresponding measurements of 86 trees were taken. This study was done in the serpentinous savanna of Camagüey province plantations, located in Las Cuabas, Camagüey Silvicultural Unit belonging to Camagüey Forestry Integrated Enterprise. Three mathematical models were compared, being the linear model the most appropriate to perform the average crown diameter estimation. This model results in easy practical management.
