Estimation of Quinolones, Ceftiofur, and Thiamphenicol Residues Levels in Honey

Abstract: Quinolones, cephalosporins and amphenicols are antimicrobial agents effective in treating many infectious diseases caused by bacteria in both human and veterinary medicine. However, its residues in food products leads to increased bacterial resistance. Therefore, the quantification and limitation of such medicines should be verified through fast and reliable methods. The aim of the research was the simultaneous quantitative determination of quinolones, ceftiofur and thiamphenicol using biochip technology. The … Show more

“…Recently, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS/MS) has been applied to the elucidation of the structures of various known and unknown compounds [18,19]. High mass spectral resolving power (RP), which reduces interference, and high mass accuracy, which allows the prediction of molecular formula for spectral peaks, have been proven to be powerful tools for the identification of new chemicals.…”

“…Te determination of residues in honey demonstrated the presence of enrofoxacin, ciprofoxacin, and norfoxacin. Because they can trigger allergic reactions or the development of drug resistance in humans, quinolones used in veterinary medicine may pose a risk to human health [65,71,78].…”

“…Inappropriate beekeeping practices such as giving antibiotics as a treatment can also cause residues in honey, which adversely affect human health [ 62 ]. From previous studies that have been carried out, honey detection using the biochip technology method is one of the antibiotic analyzers that can work simultaneously, quickly and cost-effectively [ 44 , 63 ]. The result of the analysis obtained is confirmed using the validation of the LC-MS/MS method.…”
