Estimation of Reactivity Ratios for Olefin Polymerization Catalysts—On the Importance of Thermodynamics

Abstract: A systematic study of the impact of gas phase composition on the estimation of the reactivity ratios of a Ziegler–Natta catalyst during the gas phase copolymerization of ethylene with 1‐butene and 1‐hexene has been carried out. The results of the study show that if one uses a realistic equation of state to estimate the co‐ and anti‐solubility effects of multiple species in the gas phase, one can obtain a unique value of the reactivity ratio pair from any number of experiments. However, it is found that using o… Show more

“…Therefore, this study adopted modulated polymerization method to prepare bio-based PA5T/56 with approximately alternating copolymerization structure by regulating the relationship between pressure and temperature during the reaction process to ensure that the reactivity ratio of each monomer is basically the same. Meanwhile, in order to validate the accuracy of the modulated polymerization method, this study referred to Mayo-Lewis method, used Monte Carlo method [8] for stimulating the chain growth of PA5T/56 in the ternary polymerization and gave the probabilistic statistical treatment for estimating the probability [9] . The estimated reactivity ratios 𝑟 𝑝𝑑 , 𝑟 𝑎𝑎 , 𝑟 𝑡𝑎 of the three monomers are in general consistent with the testing results, thus confirming the successful synthesis of the alternating copolymerized PA5T/56.…”
