Estimation of renal function in patients with chronic kidney disease

Abstract: The risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis after gadolinium exposure is inversely related to renal function. Various methods are available to assess the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Prediction formulas based on serum creatinine, such as the abbreviated Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formula, are most commonly used and appear acceptable for clinical purposes in the majority of patients with chronic renal failure. However, especially in patients at the extremes of body composition, the results … Show more

“…Clinical data, such as gender, age, and stone components, were collected. Renal function was evaluated with eGFR using the modification of diet in renal disease formula [8,9]. The stone components were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy [10].…”

“…Patients were categorized into five stages (hereafter referred to as CKDue stages) following the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative guidelines [11] and based on the latest glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The modified diet in renal disease (MDRD) formula [GFR (ml/min/1.73 m 2 ) = 186 9 Scr -1.154 9 (Age) -0.203 9 (0.742 if female) 9 (1.212 if African American)] using Serum creatinine (Scr) levels was used to estimate GFR [12]. Glomerular filtration is considered to be the best estimate of kidney function.…”

“…Sie wird in der Praxis entweder aus dem 24 h-Urin berechnet oder als MDRD(modification of diet in renal disease)-GFR, als CKD-EPI(Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration)-Formel oder nach der CockroftGault-Formel abgeschätzt. Die GFR beträgt bei nierengesunden Patienten 90-130 ml/min/1,73 m 2 [8].…”
