Estrategias de diseño bioclimático para una vivienda popular en clima cálido-húmedo de México : protección solar, ventilación y técnicas de deshumidificación

Abstract

(English) Popular housing in hot and humid areas of Mexico often faces challenges in terms of energy efficiency and comfort due to extreme weather conditions. Humidity is one of the main problems affecting the habitability of these houses. 
 In this thesis, bioclimatic design strategies that can help reduce humidity in these houses are analyzed, paying special attention to solar shading, ventilation and specific dehumidification techniques, such as pressurization, shallow geothermal and the use of silica gel panels. The research is based on the analysis of different materials and technologies, through simulations and mathematical models, to evaluate their impact on the quality of life of the inhabitants of a case study near the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco. 
 The results of this research show that the proposed strategies and modifications can be effective in reducing temperature and relative humidity, however, no single strategy, or combination of strategies, can guarantee adequate levels of hygrothermal comfort in extreme climates, such as the one considered in this research. These recommendations, however, could help to significantly improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of these dwellings, by improving not only their comfort, but also their health.
 
 It is concluded that no single strategy guarantees adequate levels of comfort, but the combination of several can approach these levels. Some strategies include increasing the roof height, using false ceilings with air cavities, implementing thermal insulation, modifying window proportions, providing solar protection, promoting constant and cross ventilation, using shallow geothermal energy, dehumidifying pressurization, and using silica gel panels. 
 These strategies have partial effectiveness and their improvements do not accumulate linearly. The importance of analyzing the specific conditions of each location to determine the optimal combination of strategies is pointed out. An estimate of water efficiency and how these strategies could benefit vulnerable populations around the world is also mentioned. Despite progress, the difficulty of reducing relative humidity in hot and humid climates and the need for continued research in this area is recognized. (Español) La vivienda popular en zonas cálidas y húmedas de México a menudo enfrenta desafíos en términos de eficiencia energética y confort debido a las condiciones climáticas extremas. La humedad es uno de los principales problemas que afectan la habitabilidad de estas viviendas.
 En esta tesis, se analizan estrategias de diseño bioclimático que pueden ayudar a reducir la humedad en estas viviendas, prestando especial atención a la protección solar, ventilación y técnicas específicas de deshumidificación, como la presurización, la geotermia somera y la utilización de paneles de gel de silicio. La investigación se basa en el análisis de diferentes materiales y tecnologías, mediante simulaciones y modelos matemáticos, para evaluar de su impacto en la calidad de vida de las habitantes de un caso de estudio cercano a la ciudad de Villahermosa, Tabasco.
 Los resultados de esta investigación demuestran que las estrategias y modificaciones propuestas pueden ser efectivas en la reducción de temperatura y humedad relativa, sin embargo, ninguna estrategia por sí sola, o combinada, puede garantizar niveles adecuados de confort higrotérmico en climas extremos, como el considerado en esta investigación. Estas recomendaciones, sin embargo, podrían ayudar a mejorar significativamente la calidad de vida de los habitantes de estas viviendas, al mejorar no solo su comodidad, sino también a su salud.
 
 Se concluye que ninguna estrategia individual garantiza niveles adecuados de confort, pero la combinación de varias puede acercarse a estos niveles. Algunas estrategias incluyen aumentar la altura de la cubierta, utilizar falso techo con cámara de aire, implementar aislamiento térmico, modificar las proporciones de las ventanas, brindar protección solar, favorecer la ventilación constante y cruzada, emplear geotermia somera, presurización deshumidificante y usar paneles de gel de sílice.
 Estas estrategias tienen efectividades parciales y sus mejoras no se acumulan linealmente. Se señala la importancia de analizar las condiciones específicas de cada ubicación para determinar la combinación óptima de estrategias. Se menciona también un cálculo del aprovechamiento del agua y cómo estas estrategias podrían beneficiar a poblaciones vulnerables en todo el mundo. A pesar de los avances, se reconoce la dificultad de reducir la humedad relativa en climas cálidos y húmedos y la necesidad de investigación continua en este campo.
