Estudo da correlação entre molusco contagioso e dermatite atópica em crianças

Abstract: The prevalence of atopic dermatitis associated with molluscum contagiosum was low. There was no statistically significant difference in the recurrence rates associated with molluscum contagiosum or in the number of lesions between the patients who had atopic dermatitis and those who did not. The number of anatomical areas affected by the molluscum contagiosum lesions and the presence of surrounding eczema and pruritus were higher in the patients with atopic dermatitis. There was no statistically significant di… Show more

“…One clinical review of 284 children noted more lesions and a greater extent of surrounding eczema in patients presenting with MC and AD compared to those patients presenting with MC alone [11]. Indeed, there are indications that AD may be a risk factor for acquisition of MCV and that patients with AD may suffer a more extensive course of MC illness [12], but, to date, there are no case-control studies to evaluate these hypotheses.…”

“…However, the prevalence may be underestimated because many studies have focused on MC-affected children who visited a medical clinic, and, therefore, have failed to include MC patients who did not seek medical treatment. 8 Risk factors for MC include swimming, 9,10 affected siblings, 4,11 atopic dermatitis (AD), 3,[11][12][13][14][15][16][17] and filaggrin (FLG) gene mutations. 18 Swimming and siblings living together can facilitate transmission of the virus by direct contact with infected persons and fomites.…”
