Ethanol extract ofTerminalia chebulafruit protects against UVB-induced skin damage

Abstract: Context: The fruit of Terminalia chebula Retz. (Combretaceae) has been used for several therapeutic purposes in Thai folk medicines. Currently, the ethanol extracts containing antioxidant compounds have shown the ability to promote collagen synthesis. Objective: This purpose of this work was to study the effects of the ethanol extract from T. chebula fruit on the inhibition of cutaneous photodamage. Materials and methods: The viability of human skin fibroblasts after incubation with T. chebula at concentration … Show more

“…accelerated wound healing in burn wounds of rats, semipurified fraction containing gallic acid from T. chebula Retz. showed antiageing activity and ethanol extract from fruit of this same plant protected skin against UVB photodamage . The immunomodulatory results found in the present work stimulate future studies evaluating the effectiveness of AELCe in wound healing.…”

“…DPPH radical scavenging activity was determined using the method previously described (Itsarasook et al, 2014;Phetdee et al, 2014;Yakaew et al, 2016). Briefly, 1 ml of 0.2 mM DPPH solution (Sigma-Aldrich Chemic GmbH, Steinheim, Germany) was mixed with 0.5 ml of various concentrations of the sample of extract previously dissolved in methanol.…”

“…Cell viability test. Cell viability was assessed using sodium 3′-[(phenylamino)-carbonyl]-3,4,tetrazolium-bis (4-methoxy-6-notro) benzene-sulfonic acid hydrate ( XTT, Boehringer Mannheim, Mannheim, Germany) assay (Inpanya et al, 2012;Phetdee et al, 2014;Yakaew et al, 2016). The cells were seeded at 1 x 10 4 cells/ cm 2 into each well of 96 well plates.…”
