Ethanol Vapor Sensing Properties of Triangular Silver Nanostructures Based on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance

Abstract: A sensitive volatile organic vapor sensor based on the LSPR properties of silver triangular nanoprisms is proposed in this paper. The triangular nanoprisms were fabricated by a nanosphere lithography (NSL) method. They have sharp vertices and edges, and are arranged in an ideal hexangular array. These characteristics ensure that they exhibit an excellent LSPR spectrum and a high sensitivity to the exterior environment changes. The LSPR spectra responding to ethanol vapor and four other volatile organic vapors—… Show more

“…Thus the composite shows linear responses in relation to vapor concentrations. The slope of each graph indicates selectivity of the composite toward a particular vapor [52]. The slope of DCM (−3 × 10 −5 ) is greater than that of THF (−2 × 10 −5 ), and acetone (−5 × 10 −6 ), respectively.…”

“…Apart from SERS applications, the triangular particle array can be employed as a highly sensitive gas sensor because its convex‐rich morphology is highly sensitive to changes to the surroundings . Based on the LSPR properties of Ag triangular nanoprisms, Yao and co‐workers have reported a sensitive organic vapor sensor, of which triangular nanoprisms were fabricated by a colloidal‐monolayer‐based method . The component nanoprisms had sharp vertices and edges, and were hexagonally arranged into an array.…”

“…Recently high sensitivity localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensors have become popular for VOC gas detection [12,13]. One example of the LSPR sensor is the silver triangular nanoprism described by Wenying Ma et al [14]. However, these sensors are expensive, have a complex fabrication processes, and are bulky in size.…”
