Ethanolic Fenugreek Extract: Its Molecular Mechanisms against Skin Aging and the Enhanced Functions by Nanoencapsulation

Abstract: Fenugreek, or Trigonella foenum-graecum L. (family Leguminosae) seeds, are typically used as food supplements to increase postnatal lactation. Fenugreek extract displays antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, but its mechanisms against skin aging have not been exploited. In this research, we are the first to define an in vitro collagenase inhibitory activity of fenugreek extract (IC50 = 0.57 ± 0.02 mg/mL), which is 2.6 times more potent than vitamin C (IC50 = 1.46 mg/mL). Nanoencapsulation has been ap… Show more

“…To monitor the damaging effect caused by UV radiation, the decreased cell viability and the increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-6 and IL-8, were shown. The free radical formation and the activation of inflammatory response are associated with the decreased viability of co-HaHF [14]. Interestingly, the protective effect of RBS and RBH after UV radiation in co-HaHF was revealed and was in agreement with the cellular protection in antioxidant activity assay in HF.…”

“…Conversely, methanol extract of Amygdalus communis exhibited weak inhibition toward tyrosinase (Tlili et al., 2019). A study on anti‐elastase property of Alkanna tinctoria revealed that acetone extract possessed the best activity with IC 50 10.02 µg/mL (Jaradat et al., 2018), whereas ethanol extract of Trigonella foenum‐graecum seed exhibited moderate inhibition of collagenase activity (IC 50 : 560 µg/mL) (Eaknai et al., 2022).…”
