Ether and Relativity

Abstract: We consider one of the fundamental debates in performing the relativity theory, namely, the ether and the relativity points of view, in a way to aid the learning of the subjects. In addition, we present our views and prospects while describing the issues that being accessible to many physicists and allowing broader views. Also, we very briefly review the two almost recent observations of the Webb redshift and the ultra high-energy cosmic rays, and the modified relativity models that have been presented to just… Show more

“…And more important, as the gravitational field equations in the alternative approach cannot be considered without a non-zero cosmological constant term, and wherein also, in the reverse side, the matter being somehow dependent on it, such a situation reminds one of the ether issue, see, e.g., Ref. [42] and references therein. In this respect, we should mention that even Einstein himself claimed [43,44] that, in principal, the general theory of relativity is merely an ether theory.…”

“…However, these theories still face the following difficulties. (1) Attempts to reconcile the theory of general relativity and quantum mechanics have met some mathematical difficulties ( [4],p101); (2) The cosmological constant problem is still a puzzle, refers to, for instance, [5]; (3) The existence of black hole is still controversy, refers to, for instance, [6]; (4) Theoretical interpretation of P. A. M. Dirac's dimensionless large number ( [7], p73) is still open; (5) The existences and characters of dark matter and dark energy are still controversy, refers to, for instance, [8]; (6) The existence and characters of gravitational aether are still not clear, refers to, for instance, [9]; (7) Whether Newton's gravitational constant γ N depends on time and space is still not clear [10]; (8) Whether the speed of light in vacuum depends on time or space is controversy, refers to, for instance, [11].…”
