Purpose: Nutrition care guidelines for the transgender population do not exist, despite significant nutritionrelated clinical and psychosocial considerations. Social networking sites (SNSs) provide multidirectional communication and have expanded in popularity among transgender users as a resource for health information and support. The nature of the content shared among the online transgender community is unknown, but may suggest the nutrition-related areas that are of most importance to the transgender population. The objective of this qualitative netnography was to describe the food and nutrition messages shared among the transgender community using video blogs (vlogs) on the SNS, YouTube. Methods: Public vlogs were assessed using the constant comparative method. Pseudoquantitative methods were used to capture the prevalence of each subtheme; quotes were documented verbatim. Data were collected from transgender users' public vlogs (n = 30) self-published on YouTube from 2013 to 2018. Results: Six major themes were generated from the data analysis. These included the following: functions of diet and exercise; diet and exercise philosophies; ''how to'' vlogs; advice for success; using dietary supplements; and effects of hormone therapy. Conclusions: Nutrition-related messages are widely shared among the online transgender community through YouTube. The identified themes reflect topics of interest and expressed needs of transgender individuals. SNSs provide health care providers with a platform to improve patient education and health literacy. Health care providers may actively engage in online discussions to build trust, answer questions, and provide a source of accurate and evidence-based information. Seaweed Secondary Metabolites with Beneficial Health Effects: An Overview of Successes in In Vivo Studies and Clinical Trials

Macroalgae are increasingly viewed as a source of secondary metabolites with great potential for the development of new drugs. In this development, in vitro studies are only the first step in a long process, while in vivo studies and clinical trials are the most revealing stages of the true potential and limitations that a given metabolite may have as a new drug. This literature review aims to give a critical overview of the secondary metabolites that reveal the most interesting results in these two steps. Phlorotannins show great pharmaceutical potential in in vivo models and, among the several examples, the anti-dyslipidemia activity of dieckol must be highlighted because it was more effective than lovastatin in an in vivo model. The IRLIIVLMPILMA tridecapeptide that exhibits an in vivo level of activity similar to the hypotensive clinical drug captopril should still be stressed, as well as griffithsin which showed such stunning results over a variety of animal models and which will probably move onto clinical trials soon. Regarding clinical trials, studies with pure algal metabolites are scarce, limited to those carried out with kahalalide F and fucoxanthin. The majority of clinical trials currently aim to ascertain the effect of algae consumption, as extracts or fractions, on obesity and diabetes.Studies focusing on the preparation of macroalgae extracts and their chemical characterization revealed a large range of seaweed compounds with very interesting biological activities including antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antivirus, antihypertensive, fat-lowering, and neuroprotective activities [12][13][14][15].The large volume of studies proving the seaweed compound activities in in vitro systems [16][17][18][19] hints the need for further advancements in the knowledge about macroalgae compound efficiency in living systems (in vivo) and their use in the development of pharmaceuticals. In vitro studies are very relevant and yield very important information, but they only represent the first step of a long process, and the results obtained rarely reveal anything about the effects of a compound in vivo, because the responses observed in vitro can be magnified, diminished, or totally different in a more complex and integrated system. In fact, in vivo studies and clinical trials are those which contribute most to truly understanding the real potential of compounds as future pharmaceuticals.In this regard, the present work intends to present insight into the results obtained in the last few years regarding secondary metabolites, such as phlorotannins, halogenated compounds, fucoxanthin, and fucosterol isolated from macroalgae, involved in in vivo studies and clinical trials, identifying the research opportunities and knowledge gaps, to valorize these compounds and their natural resources. OBJETIVO: Validar una nueva estrategia para identificar grupos de alimentos capaces de asociarse con la estatura. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio transversal, observacional, analítico y exploratorio. Se obtuvo información de la alimentación de 24 horas previas, longitud y estatura para la edad y sexo de los niños sanos de 4.0 a 12.7 meses. La proporción que cada uno de los 7 grupos de alimentos tuvo en el consumo total se usó como variable independiente versus la longitud y estatura para edad y sexo como variable dependiente en modelos de regresión múltiple de tres grupos de edad (1 = 4-6, 2 = 7-9, 3 = 10-12 meses).RESULTADOS: Se estudiaron 185 niños; el grupo de edad de 7 a 9 meses mostró asociación significativa con el grupo de carne: la estatura aumentó con mayor consumo de ésta. En el grupo de edad de 10 a 12 meses el grupo seno tuvo un coeficiente negativo: estatura menor con mayor proporción de consumo de leche humana.CONCLUSIONES: El método aquí descrito permitió identificar grupos de alimentos capaces de alcanzar asociación significativa con el crecimiento en estatura, en grupos pequeños de 47 a 77 niños. Esta estrategia debe ampliarse a una muestra mayor de niños y otras edades para conocer mejor la posible aplicabilidad clínica del método propuesto.
