Show more

“…On the other hand, the concentrations of heavy metals in this study would be below the ISQG and PEL levels provided by the Canadian sediment quality guideline [22]. Carrying out this type of evaluation alone would underestimate the identification of metals that generate different contamination classifications [30], and would not include standard values for other elements of importance that are not included in the regulations [5].…”

“…The artisanal gold mining projects and their operations are producing considerable alterations in the composition and structure of the organisms that live in the river courses and their banks. Thus, there is an increasing risk of exposure to contaminating substances to the surrounding populations that live in areas mainly intended for agricultural activities [5].…”

“…[ 22 ] have pointed out that the presence of metals in the Suches River in the Puno Region is due to discharges generated by typical mining activities, as well as the mineralogical composition and natural weathering of rocks in the area, which negatively impact water quality. Similarly [ 23 ], found the same in various rivers in the Puno Region, and heavy metals such as Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, As, and Hg were found in the water of the inner bay of the city of Puno[ 24 ].…”
