Evaluating Changes in Spatial Accessibility to Airports in Turkey between 2000 and 2018

Abstract: The present study aims to investigate the changes that occurred between 2000 and 2018 with regard to spatial accessibility to airports for each district in Turkey. Within this scope, first, the service coverage area of each airport within 1 to 2 h travel time by car for 2000, 2009, and 2018 using the available road networks for the given years is evaluated and each district that can reach at least one airport within 1 to 2 h by car determined. Secondly, the catchment areas of each airport are defined based on … Show more

“…The intermodal passenger transport planning at YIA was conducted using the following steps (Figure 1). The first step was determining the coverage of the airport service area and zoning of the integrated model of transportation [20]. This step started with preparing a map of the study area, determining the zones or node points to be studied as the origin and destination, and giving the area boundary line, known as the outer boundary line (external cordon line).…”

“…Using a case study approach, Halpern and Bråthen ( 7 ) compared the impact of two airports in Norway on regional accessibility based on surveys of residents in different regions. Paköz and Sakarya ( 31 ) investigated changes in the spatial accessibility of regional airports in Turkey between 2000 and 2018 using a gravity-based formula. Mueller ( 32 ) systematically measured the accessibility of remote airports in the United States and Europe based on a travel cost model.…”
