Evaluating Overheads of Integrated Multilevel Checkpointing Algorithms in Cloud Computing Environment

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology for providing high availability to the demands of cloud's clients. To attain this objective, failover stratagems for cloud computing using integrated checkpointing algorithms are purposed in this paper. Purposed strategy integrate checkpointing feature with load balancing algorithms and also make multilevel checkpoint to decrease checkpointing overheads. For implementation of purposed failover strategies, a cloud simulation environment is developed, which has the ability to pr… Show more

“…In [18], fault tolerance module includes multilevel checkpoint functionality along with load balancing algorithms to decrease the checkpoint overheads. Checkpointing efficiency is improved and checkpoint overhead is reduced by considering various metrics such as computation time, migration time, latency, overhead, checkpoint ratio and response time.…”

“…In the same area and for the same purpose, the paper [17] utilizes BlobCR to optimize the checkpointing storage in cloud computing. The papers [9] and [20] propose also an adaptive checkpointing interval to minimize the overload. The checkpointing is used for the load balancing in [21].…”

“…There are various common characteristics of Cloud including massive scale, homogeneity, Virtualization, Resilient Computing, Low-cost software, Geographic distribution, service orientation and advanced security technologies [6]. Cloud services placed a number of challenges [7] The checkpoint is a locally stable state of a process [8] which determines the consistency. Checkpoints are paramount and provide a point in time (PIT) copies of machines (VMs).…”
