Evaluating recovery strategies for the disruptions in liner shipping networks: a resilience approach

Abstract: PurposeSince the start of the current century, the world at large has experienced uncertainties as a result of climate change, terrorism threats and increasing economic upheaval. These uncertainties create non-classical risks for global seaborne container trade and liner shipping networks (LSNs). The purpose of this paper is to establish a novel risk-based resilience framework to measure the effectiveness of different recovery strategies for the disruptions in LSNs in a quantitative manner.Design/methodology/a… Show more

“…Yang and Liu [90] constructed the Maritime Silk Road shipping network using the CN method and then used disruption simulations to analyze the resilience of the Maritime Silk Road transportation network, identifying dominant and weak port nodes. Wan et al [49] used the resilience loss triangle model to analyze the performance of liner shipping networks (LSNs) during recovery, and the rationality and feasibility of the developed indicators in LSN-aided decision making were tested from the recovery strategies based on the degree of centrality, closeness of the degree of centrality, and betweenness centrality. Poo and Yang [107] assessed the global shipping network focusing on climate resilience by using a methodology that combined CN and a ship routing optimization model.…”

“…unpredicted external factors, to improve its resistance and reduce the possible losses it may suffer [1]; the other is response-driven management which improves the recoverability of ecosystems after the occurrence of disruptions and restores normal conditions as soon as possible [2]. The theory of organizational ecosystem resilience enables the possibility to analyse the integral combination of these two types of management for the enhancement of organizational ecosystem's resilience.…”
