“…Most of the studies were from developed countries; eleven studies were conducted in the USA [2535], two were conducted in Canada [3637], ten studies were conducted in Europe [3847], two studies were conducted in Hong Kong [4849] and three studies were conducted in Israel, Brazil and Iran [50–52]. Twenty studies were controlled studies [2527,29,32,34,3644,46,48,49,51,52], two of which were RCTs [44, 51]. The other eight studies were before/after surveys, without a control group [28, 30, 31, 33, 35, 45, 47, 50].…”

“…The difficulty of evaluating ergonomics interventions in the quickly changing environments of healthcare provision has been recognised for some time (Straker et al 2004) and several reviews have indicated that multi-factorial interventions for patient handling offer the most effective approach (Amick et al 2006;Hignett et al 2003). Recent studies support the use of multifaceted ergonomic programmes to improve risk management for patient handling (Berthelette et al 2012;D'Arcy, Sasai, and Stearns 2012;Gucer et al 2013;Lim et al 2011;Szeto et al 2013). The discussion of this study is presented in sections to cover the results of the development of TROPHI, the possible limitations and actions for the future.…”
