Evaluating Suitability of a DS18B20 Temperature Sensor for Use in an Accurate Air Temperature Distribution Measurement Network

Abstract: We analysed literature data and our experimental results to determine why the readings of different temperature sensors might be notably different in air despite being placed in close proximity. We attributed these differences to two factors—unrestricted air movements and differences in the sensors’ response times. After elimination of these factors, the temperature readings of Pt100 and DS18B20 sensors exhibited an excellent agreement which, together with the convenient networking features provided by the DS1… Show more

“…This process was repeated three times, consistently yielding accurate measurement and data recording results. According to a study conducted by Elyounsi and Kalashnikov (2021), experimental readings were performed for approximately three months. The readings of DS18b20 showed excellent agreement with an average bias of only 0.05 °C and most scattered within ± 0.08 °C.…”

“…The temperature sensor DS18B20 is a digital sensor, with a small size, simple hardware, and anti-interference ability. Its temperature measurement range of -55°C ~125°C, suitable for a variety of small space equipment in the field of non-extreme digital temperature measurement [3][4][5] . Restricted by the test environment, temperature range, measurement accuracy, test resolution, and other factors, the above two temperature sensors can not fully meet the various types of high-precision, wide measurement domain temperature measurement scenarios, but the RTD temperature measurement module is a better solution to these problems.…”

“…The wide use of these parameters has led to an increasing demand for accurate temperature measurement instruments. The global market data estimates that the annual growth of temperature sensors will increase by 4.8% in 2027 [1], and it is also predicted that in the next ten years will exceed 10 billion sensors/year [2]. The impact caused by this increased demand is the rise of the thermocouple modules price with high accuracy.…”
