Evaluating the Effect of Policies and the Development of Charging Infrastructure on Electric Vehicle Diffusion in China

Abstract: China has been one of the most aggressive countries in electric vehicle (EV) promotion. However, private EV sales fail to achieve the government’s target. In particular, cutting purchase subsidies poses great uncertainty in relation to EV diffusion. In this research, a system dynamics model aims to investigate the influence of government policies, infrastructure development plans, the duration of policies, and the phase out strategy of policies. Parameters relating to consumers’ preferences are drawn from a qu… Show more

“…As the initial NEVs were launched, these NEVs were also tested and selected by the actual market demand. At the same time, the emergence of NEVs caused potential demand to shift to actual demand, and public demand was clearly first [64]. Public demand could be met only by coordinating a small number and limited types of players, such as vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers, and specific operators, to form a simple value adoption chain to provide NEV products.…”

“…It is also designed to be a practical tool that policy makers can use to help them solve the pressing problems that they confront in their organizations [14]. The kernel of SD modeling is to construct multiple feedback loops for characterizing the interactive behaviors of complex systems, especially providing new insights into organizational risk issues such as aerospace, transportation, the chemical industry, and environmental engineering [15][16][17][18][19]. Understanding the nature and stability of such dynamics to enhance the systems thinking is often the purpose of a SD model.…”

“…Electric vehicles (EVs) have been considered a promising technology for mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which have attracted the attention of countries all over the world [1,2]. In 2017, the global market share of new energy vehicles exceeded 1 million on the road.…”
