Evaluating the improvement of clay performance with different percentages of cement and lime

Abstract

Soil improvement is a common practice in all soil engineering cases, particularly in conditions where the soil is of poor quality. In many cases, natural soil at a site that is not suitable for the foundation layer can be modified by mixing it with river materials and compacting it. After determining the geotechnical parameters of the ground and the embankment layers, analysis and designs were performed using numerical methods and the Plaxis finite element software 8.2V. The use of finite element methods yielded acceptable results in static analyses. A comparison of results indicates that the condition of the ground layers and the local mixing design with different percentages of cement and lime for optimal and economical outcomes were assessed. In the end, practical recommendations will be provided.
