Evaluating the Influence of Climate Change on Sophora moorcroftiana (Benth.) Baker Habitat Distribution on the Tibetan Plateau Using Maximum Entropy Model

Abstract: The ecosystems across the Tibetan Plateau are changing rapidly in response to climate change, which poses unprecedented challenges for the control and mitigation of desertification on the Tibetan Plateau. Sophora moorcroftiana (Benth.) Baker is a drought-resistant plant species that has great potential to be used for desertification and soil degradation control on the Tibetan Plateau. In this study, using a maximum entropy (MaxEnt) niche model, we characterized the habitat distribution of S. moorcroftiana on t… Show more

“…Previous studies on S. moorcroftiana have mainly focused on its population distribution ( Liu et al., 2020 ; Xin et al., 2021 ; Yang et al., 2021 ), soil seed banks ( Zhao et al., 2007 ), medicinal functions ( Wang et al., 2014 ; Luo et al., 2018 ), analysis of transcriptome ( Li et al., 2015 ) and verification of gene functions ( Li et al., 2017 ). In this study, we report, for the first time, the phenotypic and genotypic variations in nine seed traits and the mean repeatability of 15 accessions of S. moorcroftiana .…”

“…MaxEnt software (https://biodiversityinformatics.amnh.org, accessed on 15 December 2022) was used for the modeling, which requires environmental data with species presence. MaxEnt has been widely used in many studies ranging from endangered species prediction to disease spreading [42,43]. To model the current and future distribution of Dipteryx spp., 36 variables and attendance data were used.…”

“…Sophora moorcroftiana is an indigenous pioneer shrub that distributed widely in the arid valley of Yarlung Zangbo River, Tibet, China (Liao et al 2021). It exhibits strong tolerance to drought and nutrient de cit, and is considered as a key species for revegetation of degraded ecosystems in arid regions (Liu et al 2006;Xin et al 2021). Although S. moorcroftiana has received much attentions on its growth, distribution, and biomass allocation (Zhao et al 2007;Cui et al 2017;Xin et al 2021), little information is available on the C allocation of S. moorcroftiana in response to drought and nutrient de cit.…”
