Evaluating variables of patient experience and the correlation with design

Abstract: The objective of this paper was to understand the variables of patient experience by analyzing recent and relevant evidence and to identify design solutions within the hospital environment that positively impact those variables. A systematic review of literature published from 2008-present was conducted to identify variables that contribute to patient experience benefits. Identified variables were documented and categorized into a design, organizational, and outcome variable matrix. Interviews were conducted w… Show more

“…On the other hand, the category of dependent factors included all variables that would provide information regarding the performance of the selected health workers. These variables were those that promote patient engagement, clinical effectiveness and patient safety [20]. The study mainly relied on the health worker's quality of service delivery score in the annual performance evaluation which included variables like application of technical skills, quality of work, initiative, self-management, public relations and spiritual care.…”

“…The physical environment where care is delivered is said to be closely linked with the healing process and patient experience of care [11]. For example, studies have found that patients’ evaluation of quality of care are mostly based on physical cues such as quietness and cleanliness of the physical environment and physical space, health facility and colors [29, 30]. This makes the built environment an important factor of PCC.…”

“…The factor analysis showed that the patient's education is a moderate influencer of patient experience. When patients are educated about health conditions, processes that they will follow and the general management of their well-being, they are better positioned for producing positive outcomes and a positive experience (Jha, Frye, and Schlimgen 2017).…”
