Evaluation by re-derivation of a paternal line after 18 generations on seminal traits, proteome and fertility

Abstract: Males from a paternal line selected for growth traits were used to produce semen doses at insemination centres and farms in a breeding scheme for rabbit meat production. The aim of this study was to assess whether a programme of selection by daily gain in fattening period changed the seminal traits, plasma and sperm proteome and the fertility of semen when used in artificial insemination. Thirty-nine males from a paternal line were obtained by re-derivation from vitrified embryos with a difference of 18 genera… Show more

“…Breeding programs for rabbit meat production involve usually a three-way cross of specifically selected lines in which paternal line bucks inseminate maternal crossbred does (Juárez et al, 2020). Recent genetic selection programs for reproductive traits in maternal lines of meat-type rabbits have focused mainly on the improving litter size (Pascual et al, 2013).…”

“…One of the main indicators of the sustainability of rabbit breeding is the profitability of farms, the improvement of which is achieved through technical and economic management and improvement of work with the rabbit population (Pascual, & Gómez, 2020;. Rabbit breeding programmes for the production of rabbit meat provide for crossing rabbits of specially selected lines, in which the parent line mates with the mother form (Juárez et al, 2020). Maternal traits are a key factor in economic efficiency in rabbit breeding.…”

“…Відомо, що на ріст тварини впливає ціла низка складних механізмів, а власне інтенсивність росту має велике значення для ефективного виробництва м'яса [7]. Програми розведення кролів з метою виробництва кролятини передбачають схрещування тварин спеціально відібраних ліній, у яких батьківська лінія спаровується з материнською формою [8].…”
