“…The CoaguChek-XS had a higher sensitivity, but lower specificity compared to the SCA-2000, and a lower correlation to reference method compared to the Abaxis (r = 0.35 versus 0.578). 11,12 Routine oral anti-coagulant treatment is uncommonly practiced in dogs, although in certain cases (eg, treatment for aortic thromboembolism 21 and following heart valve replacement surgery 14,15 ) long-term warfarin therapy may be indicated in dogs. In such instances, home PT monitoring using the device may be considered.…”

“…[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Such devices are also penetrating the veterinary market, and 2 POC coagulation analyzers have been evaluated in dogs. 11,12 The CoaguChek-XS a is a second-generation, portable, battery-powered, laser photometer, weighing 175 g (batteries included) and fits in a human hand ( Figure 1). It uses a thromboplastin and iron particlecontaining test cartridge, which is inserted into a slot in the analyzer.…”

“…Dixon‐Jimenez et al evaluated a different POC coagulation analyser (Abaxis VSPro) in experimentally induced coagulopathic dogs that received unfractionated heparin . They calculated sensitivity 72% and specificity 86% for PT; and sensitivity 93% and specificity 89% for aPTT.…”

“…All previous studies involve the comparison of two different analysers, one being a POC analyser, the other a reference laboratory analyser . The reference laboratories’ coagulation analysers used in these studies include Kontact Pacific Hemostasis, Trinity AMAX destiny coagulation analyser Diamond Diagnostics 7 and ACL 200 Instrumentation Laboratory .…”

“…In addition, point-of-care analysers with test cartridges for PT and APTT are available for animals (e.g., VetScan VSpro Coagulation Analyzer; Abaxis Europe, Darmstadt, Germany). A recent study demonstrated an acceptable correlation with conventional PT and APTT assays (Dixon-Jimenez et al, 2013).…”
