“…Experimental porcine cysticercosis has been developed using different protocols, mainly by oral inoculation of eggs or by ingestion of gravid proglottids of T. solium (de Aluja et al, 1996; Gonzalez et al, 2005; Kaur et al, 1995). Of these methods, the use of gravid proglottids produces a high parasitic load of cysticerci in pigs, likely as in natural pig infections (Boa et al, 2002; Gonzalez et al, 2005; Rodriguez-Hidalgo et al, 2003; Vargas-Calla et al, 2016). Our result using beetles as mechanical vectors produced a low parasitic load of cysticerci in pigs, like oral inoculation of eggs method (de Aluja et al, 1996; Fan et al, 1994; Kaur et al, 1995).…”

“…On the other hand, in areas endemic for Taenia (T.) solium infection and possible unrecognized cerebral cysticercosis, the activity of praziquantel against T. solium metacestodes and the consequent immune response could possibly cause cerebral edema and epilectic attacks which is not expected for triclabendazole which is apparently not active on cysticerca [70,71] . Furthermore, TCZ is not only active against small liver flukes but also against the large liver fluke Fasciola hepatica [68,21,44,72] .…”

“…Ninety two pig serum samples were provided by The Cysticercosis Working Group (CWGP) repository, but only 85 serum pig samples had complete necropsy and LLGP-EITB data: 48 positive samples were obtained from experimentally and naturally infected pigs that were LLGP-EITB positive; and 37 negative samples were obtained from pigs from industrialized farms from a non-endemic area that were LLGP-EITB negative (Vargas-Calla et al, 2016). Lor the infected pigs, the necropsy report included details about the total number of cysts and viable cysts found in the carcasses.…”

“…Lor the infected pigs, the necropsy report included details about the total number of cysts and viable cysts found in the carcasses. As the serum samples used in this study were provided by the CWGP, the infection of the pigs, LLGP-EITB of sera and necropsy protocols are described in more details in previous publications (Gomez-Puerta et al, 2018;Moreno et al, 2012;Vargas-Calla et al, 2016).…”
