Evaluation of Amino Acids Profile as Non-Invasive Biomarkers of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Egyptians

Abstract: Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most dangerous complication of chronic liver disease. It is a multifactorial complicated disease. Hepatitis C and hepatitis B viruses (HCV and HBV, respectively) represent the main causes of HCC in Egypt. Early diagnosis is very important to aid in early intervention. Objectives: The goal of this research is to evaluate the metabolic role of different amino acids as non-invasive biomarkers over the course of HCC. Methods: This study included 302 participants wi… Show more

“…The relative importance of both the kynurenine pathway and ADMA was assessed with the kynurenine/tryptophan ratio and the Arg/ADMA ratio. Finally, the Fisher's ratio (defined as the sum of BCAAs, Leu, Ile, and Val divided by the sum of aromatic AAs, Tyr, and Phe) and the GSG index [Glu/(Ser + Gly)] were also calculated, as they have been observed to be altered in several pathologies and metabolic dysfunctions [13,14].…”

“…A potential factor that might contribute to this phenomenon is the downregulation of the immune response after effective DAA treatment, which may increase susceptibility to the formation of neoplasia. However, more investigation via larger multicenter trials is necessary to validate these findings 30 …”

“…However, more investigation via larger multicenter trials is necessary to validate these findings. 30 There is a possibility that idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) might be classified as an EHM, given the notable incidence of HCV antibodies in individuals affected by this condition. It is noteworthy that therapy-naive individuals with HCV had an elevated prevalence of chronic alveolitis based on the results from alveolar lavage.…”

“…Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a widespread problem worldwide, and variations in its epidemiological data across different geographical regions have been identified. Furthermore, it ranks as the fourth most prevalent type of cancer in Egypt and the sixth globally [ 1 , 2 ]. With a population of 15 million, Egypt ranks the 15 th globally and the third in Africa [ 3 , 4 ].…”
