Evaluation of amotosalem treated platelets over 7 days of storage with an automated cytometry assay panel

Abstract: Our study showed a progressive modification of pathogen inactivated platelet concentrates observed up to 7 days. The persistence of the secretory pool and the presence of the platelet membrane fibrinogen receptor suggest the persistence of a potential hemostatic efficacy. Clinical studies are necessary to directly correlate this type of analysis to 24 h recovery or survival of transfused platelets in humans.

“…Hechler et al 38 reported that the expression of major GPs after Intercept-PRT was stable during storage, with the exception of GPIbα, which progressively declined, similarly to Intercept-treated and control PCs. Equivalent findings were also observed by Sandgren and Diedrich 32 and Isola et al 40 Abonnenc et al 57 reported decreasing GPIbα values and increasing GPIIb/IIIa expression 55 57 during storage, mainly on day 7 in Intercept-treated PCs, although Arnason et al 29 reported decreased GPIbα expression in Intercept-treated PCs at an earlier time point, beyond day 4. Apelseth et al 33 recorded declining GPIbα levels during storage, which were more profound in Intercept-treated PCs than controls.…”

“…32,35,37,40 Progressively increasing LDH values during late storage time were also reported. 31,34,55 Furthermore, the duration of CAD treatment influenced LDH levels. Specifically, longer CAD treatments resulted in higher LDH values in Intercept-treated PCs.…”
