Evaluation of antibacterial activity of "Mangabarana" Austroplenckia populnea Reissek (Celastraceae)

Abstract: RESUMO: "Avaliação da atividade antibacteriana de "Mangabarana" Austroplenckia populnea Reissek (Celastraceae)". … Show more

“…(1984) [ 19 ] and Matos (1997) [ 20 ] were identified in the extracts isolated from samaras of A. populnea the presence of long chain hydrocarbons (the most part in SAPEH), triterpenes, flavonoids and catechins. This result is in agreement with previous works in which were isolated mainly pentacyclic triterpenes [ 9 , 12 ].…”

“…During continued phytochemical investigation of extracts from leaves, stems and roots of A. populnea an extensive number of constituents have been isolated, finding the main compounds as different series of pentacyclic triterpenes, such as friedelanes, agarofurans and others [ 8 , 9 ]. When subjected to in vitro assays, some constituents of A. populnea presented properties such as antibacterial [ 9 , 12 ], antitrypanosomal [ 13 ], anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive [ 14 ], antiulcerogenic, analgesic [ 15 ] and male contraceptive effect [ 16 , 17 ]. In accordance to Monache et al .…”

“…A total of 12 triterpenes were isolated from Austroplenckia populnea extracts and, of these, pristimerin (33) showed significant activity against Escherichia coli and abruslactone A (34) against S. aureus (Miranda et al, 2009b). A mixture of the phenylpropanoid glycosides verbascoside (35) and isoverbascodide (36) was isolated from Arrabidaea harleyi (Lima et al, 2003) (Fig.…”

“…The African grasses produce large quantities of biomass that dehydrate during the dry seasons and act as a 'fuel' to very fierce fires, that are more frequent, stronger and longer than Cerrado plants can resist (Klink and Machado 2005;Carmo et al 2011). Fierce fires increase the mortality of plants, especially young individuals and seeds, and result in more open physiognomies, with different patterns of water use and carbon flux efficiencies (Medeiros and Miranda 2005;Miranda et al 2009a).…”
