Evaluation of Atmospheric Corrosion in the City of Tuxpan Veracruz

Abstract: Tuxpan is a port with economic and industrial important activity, has subject to the process of atmospheric corrosion of metal structures such as boats, ships, oil platforms and Thermoelectric. The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the Atmospheric Corrosion of Tuxpan Veracruz, it was necessary to install a display panel with carbon steel specimens (Ac -R), galvanized steel (zinc ), aluminum and copper in order to evaluate them in every season by electrochemical methods (electrochemical impedance spectr… Show more

“…However, in other seasons are observed decreased resistance to charge transfer, implying an increase in the corrosion mechanism per activation. The presence or diffusion limited at low frequency facilitates access of aggressive species (Cl-and O 2 ) to the interface through the corrosion product film even more encouraging corrosion (3)(4)(5)(6).…”

“…The iron structure was coated with epoxy paint, to prevent corrosion of it, Figure 2. The determination of suspended particles, chlorides and sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere was carried out using methodologies established in ISO 9225, ISO 9225: 1992 and ASTM G91-97 (3)(4)(5)(6).…”

“…Studying atmospheric corrosion maps is remarkably important for companies that use metals in their infrastructure and/or activities open to the environment. For example, in the United States, corrosion causes losses equivalent to 0.3% of its GDP, impacting its industrial (50%), infrastructure (8.2%), services (17.35%), transportation (10.76%), and manufacturing (6.37%) sectors [127]. Corrosion maps have also been constructed in Cuba.…”
