Abstract:Background: Most serious complications of liver cirrhosis, including ascites, esophageal varices (EV), and variceal hemorrhage, are brought on by portal hypertension. It has been suggested that screening with a gastroscopy be used to evaluate EV and bleeding risk in patients with cirrhosis.
