Evaluation of biological and physicochemical risk of hospital liquid waste in Morocco

Abstract: Hospitals could be the source of pollution that must be taken into account in a general approach to health and environmental risk assessment. This study is part of the characterization of hospital liquid waste in a region in Morocco, whose objective is to assess their physicochemical, bacteriological and toxicological quality. The physicochemical analyzes carried out on 144 samples taken during one year showed a great fluctuation of some parameters such as: BOD5, COD, MES, PH, T°, as well as an important bacte… Show more

“…In our study the result of the average values of this report is between 4.57 and 9.77, with a total average value of six months at about 7.66, this value higher than 3 means that these effl uents are hardly biodegradable. Other studies have similar results: Sarhane and al with an interval between 6.5 and 8.21 (29) , and El Mountassir and al with values ranging from 5.7 to 10.85 (21) , on the other hand Tahiri and al (19) and Touzani and al (18) found results lower than 3: 2.83 and 2.10 respectively.…”

“…e population suffers and the environment is also in danger. Effluents have varied and dangerous characteristics, according to several studies that contain a large load of organic matter, microorganisms such as bacteria and e Scientific World Journal resistant viruses, and toxic gases [34][35][36][37]. e big problem is that the industrial and health units and the overcrowding generate a great risk of infection and contamination for the population of the region and a great risk of contamination for the environment as well as a real health alert that threatens the greatest Moroccan regions as clearly demonstrated through the PCA carried out during this study.…”
