“…These data suggest that CCHF in children has a milder course than in adults. [8][9][10][11][12] Although the pathogenesis of CCHF has not been well-defined, inflammatory processes and release of proinflamatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were reported to be important factors in disease pathogenesis and disease course in viral hemorrhagic fever. [13][14][15] In this study, the relationship between cytokine values and the course of CCHF in pediatric patients is evaluated.…”

“…The disease seems to be milder in children than adults (Tezer et al 2010;Tuygun et al 2012;Belet et al 2014). A total case-fatality rate of 1.1 % (2 deaths out of 179 recorded cases in patients under the age of 18 years) in Turkey (Belet et al 2014) supports this notion.…”

A total case-fatality rate of 1.1 % (2 deaths out of 179 recorded cases in patients under the age of 18 years) in Turkey (Belet et al 2014) supports this notion. In contrast, in an Iranian study, the casefatality rate for patients under 18 years of age (with 13 males out of 14 total cases) was 26 % (Sharifi- Mood et al 2008), indicating that high case-fatality rates can occur also in younger age groups.…”

“…Because it can take considerable time from suspecting the diagnosis of CCHF in hospital until reaching a definitive diagnosis in the laboratory, the clinical symptoms and signs may be supportive of a primary diagnosis of the disease. Clinical features of CCHF have been evaluated and reported in several studies (TABLE 1) [20][21][22][23][24][25][26]. The clinical course of CCHF among children seems to be milder than in adults [20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28].…”
