Abstract:BackgroundIncreasing evidence indicates that periodontitis contributes to systemic low‐grade inflammation. Porphyromonas gingivalis is strongly associated with periodontitis, and antibodies against the bacterium may be used as a serological proxy to account for periodontal status, when studying diseases associated with periodontitis.
