Evaluation of Corrosion Properties of Al2O3 and SiC Reinforced Aluminium Metal Matrix Composites Using Taguchi’s Techniques

Abstract: We report the fabrication of alumina (Al2O3) and silicon carbide (SiC) particulates reinforced Al metal matrix composites (Al MMCs) by stir casting method. The effect of reinforcement and heat treatment on the corrosion properties of Al matrix and r-Al MMCs were investigated by polarization, impedance and weight loss methods. Taguchi's experimental design method was employed to set the process parameters. In order to find the optimal process parameter levels, orthogonal arrays of Taguchi, the signal-to-noise (… Show more

“…Ravikumar et al [112] experimented with the fabrication of Al 2 O 3 and SiC particulates reinforced HAMCs via stir casting method to examine the impact of reinforcement and processing conditions on corrosion behaviors of Al matrix and HAMCs investigated by polarization, impedance (EIS), and weight loss methods. 'ey found that rising the contents of Al 2 O 3 and SiC particulates in the HAMCs reduces the rate of corrosion.…”

“…It is understood that the upsurge in CP, S.Temp, and ST enhances the compressive strength. This could be elucidated through the way that a rise in CP, S.Temp, and ST improves the heat treatment method by which appropriate holding and dissemination of particles is accomplished [42][43][44][45][46]. Additionally, the compressive strength of the composites totally relies upon the PM parameters, which create the enhancement in properties conceivable.…”

“…Ferhat et al 20 studied dry sliding wear behaviour of adding Al–10Si/SiCp filler particles in composite that results in enhanced mechanical and tribological properties. Ravi et al 21 observed that the Al 2 O 3 with 6 wt% in composite found high wear resistance and superior corrosive resistance when compared with other concentrations. Tribological properties exhibited reduced coefficient of friction and lower wear rate under dry sliding condition.…”
