Evaluation of Dypsis lutescens (H. Wendl.) pollinic viability by certain colorimetric tests

Abstract: Dypsis lutescens is predominant in regions with tropical, subtropical and equatorial climate. Areca, has considerable commercial value in Brazil, is highly cultivated in large scale for landscaping and decoration purposes. The objective of this work was to evaluate the viability of D. lutescens pollen through the staining test, using Lugol 2%, 2% acetic Orcein, 1% Malachite Green, Methylene Blue, 1% Fuchsin, 5% Giemsa and the Reactive of Alexander. For the tested dyes, the viability of the pollen was determine… Show more

“…In addition, lower chlorophyll levels may reflect lower photosynthetic rates and reduced plant growth, as observed in the present study (Figure 4), due to lower carbohydrate accumulation (Taiz et al, 2017). A reduction in ICF due to the absence of nitrogen fertilization was also observed by Milani et al (2021) in cut gerberas grown in pots.…”

“…In Brazil, the areca palm is an ornamental plant with considerable commercial value and is cultivated on a large scale for decoration and landscaping. To maintain its commercial value, it must be kept in shadow to avoid burning and the development of yellowish leaves (Ramos et al, 2019).…”
