Evaluation of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of multi-axial fabrics and their reinforced PES composites

Abstract: The usage of electrical and electronic equipments has been increasing in daily life, which has a potential hazardous impact on humans and other living organisms. In this paper, multi-axial fabrics containing steel yarns and carbon filaments, and their polyester (PES) resin-reinforced composites have been prepared for electromagnetic shielding applications. The electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) of these structures was determined by using coaxial transmission line measurement technique. There were e… Show more

“…The carbon nanofiber (VGCNF) and reinforced nanocomposites were weighed to find out the amount of carbon nanofiber used within the construction. And so, for nanocomposite structures, carbon nanofiber volume fraction was calculated according to standard using equation (2) 30 where V f is volume fraction of fibers, W f is weight of fibers, W m is weight of matrix, ρ f is density of fibers, and ρ m is density of matrix.…”

“…2 Concerns about electromagnetic interference (EMI) have been growing among the researchers due to their potential health hazards on living creatures and their negative impacts on the performance of the electronic devices, as the usage of electrical and electronic equipment has been accumulating day by day. 3 The source of the EMI is principally electrical with unwanted electromagnetic emission being radiated or conducted. 4 Electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) is described as blocking the electromagnetic fields by facilitating conductive or magnetic materials as barriers.…”

“…For example, the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) of the multiaxial fabrics containing steel yarns and carbon filaments and their polyester (PES)-resin-reinforced composites were studied by using coaxial transmission line measurement technique. The tested results show that the structures containing both carbon filaments and stainless steel yarns exhibited better EMSE than the ones including only one type of conductive yarns or filaments (Erdem, 2016). The electromagnetic shielding behavior of fabrics woven by carbon/stainless steel/polypropylene (C/SS/PP) hybrid yarns was investigated in the frequency range from 300 kHz to 1.5 GHz, and the electromagnetic shielding behavior of C/SS/PP hybrid yarn fabric and the effect of different fabric parameters such as pick density, fabric architecture and number of fabric layers on shielding effectiveness (SE) of fabrics with C/SS/PP hybrid yarns were mainly studied (Krishnasamy et al , 2016).…”
