In this study, the effects of olive leaf extract on growth, haematological parameters, immune system and carcass composition in common carp were examined. In this research, 180 common carp (32.26 ± 1.01 g) were randomly distributed to nine fibreglass tanks. The fish were fed a diet with 200 mg/kg olive leaf extract (group 1), 400 mg/kg olive leaf extract (group 2), and basal food (control group) for 75 days. At the end of the experiment, WG, SGR and PER values were significantly higher in the groups fed the diet containing 200 mg/kg of olive leaf extract compared with the control group. Furthermore, FCR and FER values were improved in the groups fed by diets with various levels of olive leaf extract than the control group. The contents of WBCs, lysozyme and NBT activity were significantly increased in the groups fed diets containing olive leaf extract. Cholesterol content was significantly lower in the group fed diet containing olive leaf extract compared with the control group. Also, serum triglyceride and carcass lipid contents were significantly lower in the group fed diet containing 200 mg/kg of olive leaf extract compared with the control group. Total protein, albumin, globulin and calcium contents were significantly higher in the group fed the diet containing 200 mg/kg of olive leaf extract compared with the control group. Our results demonstrated that diet containing 200 mg/kg olive leaf extract were efficient feed additives and has the potential for use in improving the growth performance and health status for this species.

In this research, energy use efficiency and GHG ratio computations were determined in olive farming. It was practiced in Çakallık area of Karpuzlu district of Aydın province of Turkey. Experiments and research datas computations were based on the January 2020 -January 2021 growing season. Energy input (EI) and energy output (EO) in olive farming were computed as 2580.70 MJ ha -1 and 9904.04 MJ ha -1 . In olive farming, 46.96% of all energy inputs consists of nitrogen energy (1212 MJ ha -1 ), 25.49% consists of human labour energy (657.88 MJ ha -1 ), 8.60% consists of phosphorus energy (222 MJ ha -1 ), 8.04% consists of electricity energy (207.36 MJ ha -1 ), 5.19% consists of potassium energy (134 MJ ha -1 ), 5.14% consists of transportation energy (132.53 MJ ha -1 ) and 0.58% consists of sulphur energy (14.93 MJ ha -1 ). Energy use efficiency (EUE), specific energy (SE), energy productivity (EP) and net energy (NE) in olive farming were computed as 3.84, 0.88 MJ kg -1 , 1.14 kg MJ -1 and 7323.34 MJ ha -1 , respectively. Energy inputs in olive farming could be classified as 33.53% direct, 66.47% indirect, 25.49% renewable and 74.51% non-renewable. Total GHG emissions were computed as 406.73 kgCO2-eqha -1 for olive farming with the greatest input being use of human labour (57.77%). Human labour input is followed by nitrogen (22.47%), electricity (8.51%), phosphorus (5.80%), potassium (3.15%), sulphur (1.21%) and transportation inputs (1.09%), respectively. GHG ratio value was computed as 0.14 kgCO2-eqkg -1 in olive farming.

Analysis of Energy Use Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Lemon (Citrus lemon L.) Production in Turkey

The purpose of this study was to determine the energy use efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions of lemon production. It was performed during the 2019–2020 production period in Turkey. The agricultural inputs and outputs used in lemon production were calculated to determine the energy use efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions. According to study findings, the energy inputs in lemon production were calculated respectively as 16,046.98 MJ ha −1 (55.43%) chemical fertilizers energy, 4168.93 MJ ha −1 (14.40%) chemicals energy, 2815.20 MJ ha −1 (9.72%) electricity energy, 2740.42 MJ ha −1 (9.47%) diesel fuel energy, 1864.80 MJ ha −1 (6.44%) irrigation water energy, 705.67 MJ ha −1 (2.44%) machinery energy and 610.20 MJ ha −1 (2.11%) human labour energy. Total input energy and output energy were calculated as 28,952.20 MJ ha −1 and 60,165.40 MJ ha −1 , respectively. Energy use efficiency, specific energy, energy productivity and net energy values were calculated respectively as 2.08, 0.91 MJ kg −1 , 1.09 kg MJ −1 and 31,213.20 MJ ha −1 . The consumed total energy inputs in lemon production can be categorized as 27.74% direct, 72.26% indirect, 8.55% renewable and 91.45% non-renewable. Total greenhouse gas emissions were calculated as 2650.96 kgCO 2‑eq ha −1 for lemon production, with the greatest share for nitrogen 950.62 kgCO 2‑eq ha −1 (35.86%). Based on the study findings, it was concluded that lemon production in 2019–2020 production season was profitable in terms of energy use efficiency (2.08). Greenhouse gas emission ratio (per kg) was calculated as 0.08. This study is important since there is no study on the energy balance and greenhouse gas emissions in lemon production in Muğla province, Turkey.
