Evaluation of farmers' OSH hazard in operationnearby mobile telephone radio base stations

Abstract: Abstract. In this paper, the authors investigated in the farmers' EMF exposures when they operate in the vicinity of mobile telephone RBSs in order to assess if in the operating frequency range of a transmitting station used by mobile phone service the limits imposed by the Italian laws are kept into proper consideration. Three mobile telephone RBSs having different geometrical and technical features, placed on rural areas of the Apulia Region have been considered. By means of a series of parallelepipeds const… Show more

“…The results highlight the fact that workers compelled to always operate near these machines would be subjected to a daily noise exposure greater than the limit; luckily, the operation connected to these machines does not require the constant presence of employees. Figure 5 also reports the contribution to the daily A-weighted noise exposure level, LEX,8h,m, calculated for each activity according to Equation (4). As previously stated, the average task duration of all the considered activity was the same (1 h), and so the bar chart concerning the LEX,8h,m has the same shape and is only proportionally reduced with reference to the one that is relevant to Lp,A,eqT,m.…”

“…However, it has led to the requirement for higher attention to detail in all the areas concerning occupational health and safety [1][2][3], as well as in the exposure of workers' to potentially dangerous physical agents [4][5][6][7], activities [8,9] or environments [10]. Amongst these last hazards, of relevant importance is the exposure of workers to noise within plants during food processing [11][12][13], as is also the case inside olive oil mills during the olive oil extraction process, where noise levels are usually high and should be carefully measured.…”

“…Storage hydrogen plants can be implemented in areas not yet supplied with an electric grid, avoiding expensive investment for a single electric grid implementation [11][12][13]. Also, they can operate constantly under dynamic solar irradiance.…”

“…The movement of workers and fruit beans on the platform placed at different heights above the soil, also during the machine movement, makes the safety characteristics of this kind of aerial platforms deserving great attention, even if the projection of the centre of gravity of the entire machine always lies inside the tipping lines [8][9][10][11]. This typology of agricultural machinery is the object of the forthcoming EC Standard, in draft phase, which has the final aim to specify the relevant safety requirements and measures, so to increase the workplace safety [12][13][14][15]. Other machines that could be considered similar with the ones we are dealing with exist, such as the mobile elevating platforms used in the building construction sector [16][17][18][19].…”
