Evaluation of Field Pea (Pisum sativum L.) Varieties for Yield and Yield-Related Traits

Abstract: F ield pea (Pisum sativum L.) is a self-pollinated diploid (2n=14) annual cool-sseason pulse crop. It is also a major food legume with a valuable and cheap source of protein having essential amino ac-ids that have high nutritional value for resource-poor households (Nawab, 2008;Getachew, 2019). It is widely grown in the cooler temperate zones and in the highlands of tropical regions of the world. The crop is cultivated in a wide range of soil types from light sandy loam to heavy clays but does not toler-Abstra… Show more

“…Yield can be influenced by a number of plant characteristics that interact with a range of external influences throughout the plant's life (Gurmu et al, 2022). The order of preference of varieties based on yield may be regarded as an accurate representation of genotypic performance (Niazian and Niedbała, 2020).…”

“…It grows in the cool temperate and highlands of tropical areas [5,6]. Field pea has the perspective of emergent in flexible ranges of elevations from 1800masl to 3000 masl [7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. The crop is also produced in different soil types except salty and drenched circumstances [3,14,15].…”

“…Regardless of its significance, 1.7 t/ha of field pea productivity is very little [13,18,22,31,32] related to possible production of 3.556 t/ha [33,34] and Mogiso [35] show that 4.17 t/ha field pea was harvested from research stations while the most yield of 7-8 t/ha was harvested in developed nations [36]. The small production of field peas by farmers is mostly due to the use of local varieties [35,37,38].…”
