Evaluation of Glass/Carbon Reinforced Polymer Composites

Abstract: Polymer composites are used in various applications because of its universal properties. In the present investigation the vinyl ester matrix composites were developed with glass fiber and carbon fiber as reinforcements. The composites were manufactured by using hand layup process and the tests were conducted as per ASTM testing standards. The inter laminar shear strength and impact strength of carbon reinforced composites have improved when compared with glass fiber reinforced composites. Whereas glass fiber r… Show more

“…Different polymer matrix components exist and have been studied extensively. Examples are textile-reinforced polymer composites (made of polymer matrix reinforced with textile materials), glass fiber reinforced plastic composites (made from glass fibers and polymer matrix), carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites from carbon fiber and polymer matrix, glass carbon reinforced polymer composite (from glass and carbon and polymer matrix), metal reinforced polymer composites and wood reinforced polymer composites (Yilmaz et al, 2018;Sulochani et al, 2022;Bhattacharya and Agrawal, 2017;Tam and Bhatnagar, 2016;Sathishkumar et al, 2014;Hussain et al, 2011;Fekete and Hall, 2016;Ozkan et al, 2020;Turgirumubano et al, 2020;Sergio et al, 2021;Vinay et al, 2016).…”

“…During the preparation of polymer matrix composites, commonly used thermoset resins are unsaturated polyesters, epoxies, vinyl esters, and phenolic [2,5,8,12,15,[26][27][28][29]. Out of these, unsaturated polyester resin represents approximately 75% of the total resins used in the composites industries.…”
